Originally, a 65 foot central hallway ran from the front door to the back stairs. Along the left were 5 small bedrooms with single panel walls and built-in wardrobes. On the right were the "informal" dining room, the "working" kitchen, a bathroom and the wash room. On special occasions, meals would still be prepared downstairs and kept warm in the 2nd floor kitchen and served in the formal dining room. The tongue-and-grooved ceiling in the dining room is original, as well the now-electrified gas wall sconces in the main hallway and bathroom. The 6 columns were salvaged from the 1982 demolition of a 1880's farm house in Santa Rosa, by Newsom Bros., Architects (designers of the famous Carson Mansion in Eureka). The Craftsman style kitchen cabinets with leaded glass were salvaged from a 1970's demolition of an Arts & Crafts house in the Sunset District. |
